Nearly two years ago I had never ridden 10,000km a year and was coming close but failing. I devised a plan to ride 20,200km in 2019+2020. I guess I figured I had a better chance of passing 10KK even if I missed this target. I did 9000km last year, but I did over 1200km a month in the summer. I guess it helped I had no movies to see, no garden parties to go to, no holidays to go on. I have only done about 500km this month as I was getting close the rain and cold was off putting. on Monday I crawled over the line with a trip to the supermarket. 20200km, project complete.
As I didn’t get to do any sportives or other events with ‘people’ (remember those?) I was mainly on Strava. I sought out and KOM’d a segment with over 10,000 riders, It turned out to be 15K, but I’ve been after a big prize for a while. I’ve used Veloviewer to find every segment I’ve ridden within 20K of home that have more riders and they are all hopelessly out of my reach, climbs not sprints. So I’ve rather maxed out on that.
That is about it for the year. I didn’t get to go to the Roma Gran Fondo as I hoped, but maybe 2022 (looks like most events are off for 21, and Ride London 100 seems like it will never return or be radically different if it does.) I am hoping the event on the Isle of Man will still go ahead in the summer, if they vaccine can roll out.
So what have you achieved in this most peculiar year. Please blow your own trumpet!
