Serrated brake caliper washer

    Hi,

    New to carbon road bikes so forgive me being a newb…

    I just bought a carbon frame and fork and plan to swap all my current components over from my old aluminium road bike. My old Tiagra rim brake calipers have these serrated washers that help prevent the calipers from rotating. Should I be removing these before fitting the calipers onto carbon?

    I’m assuming yes but is there a better way to ensure no rotating?

    Use them if you need them,

    Use them if you need them, the brake shoes might hit the frame without and you might need more than one. They won’t destroy your frame in any case

    I’ve always just fitted them,

    I’ve always just fitted them, you will might get a little bit of marking on the contact point of the frame but no worse than if you tighen up a flat washer in it’s place. The caliper nut doesn’t need to be that tight anyway as it’s useful to be able to rotate callipers by hand occosionally when the need arises. If you are concerned about marking the frame you could put a bit of protective tape between the frame and washer.
