I have two pairs of shoes for offroad; Fizik Artica X5 for winter and Fizik Vento X3 for summer. The Articas are perfect for their job, but in summer I’m still getting really hot & sweaty on summer rides, so I’d like a little more ventilation.
Would it be crazy to drill a couple of holes in the toes of the Vento X3 to allow a bit more airflow through? They have a very sturdy toe cap (sturdier than I’ll ever need, I’m not kicking rocks around) whilst further back on the upper there are lots of little perforations. I don’t mind the risk of occasional mud ingress into the toe, as my off-road riding tends to be more gravel than mud and I hose the shoes out when necessary. Is there anything else that could go wrong?
