Canyon Grail mudguards/fenders finally released

18 months late you can finally winterize your Grail. Irritatingly I've just bought a set of SKS Edge mudguards to try to fit, and I'm wondering whether it's worth the many hours of fettling for one winter or send them back, wait and probably miss the winter for the Canyon ones. They do look good. It'll be a total pain in the arse to fit conventional fenders with no brake bride and an elevated boss on the seat tube. Sounds like I've convinced myself to wait!

They come in both sizes 700c & 650b (29″ & 27.5″) but typically for Canyon the 700c is sold out and Canyon live chat just told me they would be back in stock in January, which in Canyon-time is May.

With the SKS: make

With the SKS: make absolutely sure to affix the provided adhesive frame protectors. Else the mudguards’ rubber ‘feet’ damage your frame where you tie them down. At least the model i used would chafe on the carbon (don’t remember the model name, it’s not for 40 mil tyres though, I had 28 mm on at the time. I’ve given up on mudguards, just use a more solid version of an ass-saver. Works ok but it’s been raining here for the past days, crud all over the downtube and seat tube. I’m hoping for a downpour tomorrow morning, might was the worst off during my commute.

hmmmm they are a bit short –

hmmmm they are a bit short – you’ll need to drill some holes and put mudflaps on to make them work properly (rawflaps are cheap and very customisable)
