Mudguard fitting bolts?

I've just bought a new bike and the mudguard attachment bosses face backwards out of the frame and forks, rather than sideways. What do people recommend to fit the mudguards and where can I get them from?

The go-to site for fiddly bits and pieces is St John’s Street Cycles; if they don’t have it, you don’t need it. If you’re in doubt about what you want they will answer the phone before the third ring and guide you expertly. And no, I don’t work for them.
