Broadmead Bristol bike parking

The Bristol Post has a story about how some bike stands in Broadmead have been removed so a new digital advertising screen can be put in, next to the mini Sainsbury’s by Cabot Circus. Considering that there really isn’t enough bike parking in Broadmead as it is, I’m glad we all now know just exactly how far down the pecking order the Bristol Alliance now considers cyclists to be: Below cars, below buses, below taxis, below Real People Who Shop, and below advertising screens… Grrr!

The Arena? I think Marvin’s kicked that one into the long grass.

There’s plenty of long grass in Filton…

Yeah, I’d go and help cut it, but there’s no decent transport links…

I was there a couple of days

I was there a couple of days ago and the bike stands were still there.  I even managed to find a space. There was scaffolding by the bus stop on the other side of the road, outside Urban Outfitter or whatever it’s called, so maybe something’s going up there – but I don’t remember if bike parking used to be there. Broadmead’s not really my favourite place anyway!

I just checked in on the Bristol Post to see if there were any updates to this. It seems that they (Bristol City Council) are claiming that it’s just a timing issue as they are planning to relocate the bike parking to the other side of the road and that they are reducing the number of advertising sites from 64 to 18.

Then again, they also claimed that they were building a stadium and I’ve not seen that happen yet.

    I think it’s fairly obvious

I think it’s fairly obvious that Bristol City Council actually hates cyclists despite it being part of their own strategy to increase the number of journeys by bike.

Looking at the “infrastructure” that they’ve put in, not a single bit is of a sufficient quality to be used (possiible exaggeration).

    Agreed, pretty ludicrous as I

Agreed, pretty ludicrous as I’ve always had to lock my bike to lamposts etc because there simply isn’t enough cycle parking.

Welcome to Bristol, the UK’s first “Cycling City”.
