Advice regarding first road bike

    I’m looking to buy my first road bike and need a bit of advice… My budget is £1000 and I need something to get me to and from work which has a few rough areas of road along the way and is about 5 miles away but also something that I can do some longer distances on in my spare time. Any advice or suggestions would be a great help, thanks

    Not all new bikes are 11

    Not all new bikes are 11 speed especially around the 1k mark these days you’re more likely to get tiagara (10 speed) or sora (9 speed).

    I would want to check that mudguards and a pannier rack can be fitted – and I think the head tube is longer than I would like – but maybe have a look at the Giant Contend SL 2 Disc 2018:

    You require a bike tha can

    You require a bike that can take minumim 35mm wide tyres, Gravel/ATR(all terrain)/Cyclocross.

    Also try to get a bike with hydraulic disc brakes-not cable disc!

    All new bikes are 11 speed currently (11*32 cassette) with two chain rings on the front.  For general riding 50/34 to 46/32 are perfect.  These will give you plenty of speed and climbing ability for hills.

    Although some gravel bikes have a single front ring and a bigger cassette on the back 11*36/40

    I know its a little over budget, but ive always been able to get discount on new bikes so you could easily negotiate a lower price.  It has hydraulic disc brakes, wide tyre capability upto 45mm(wheels are tubeless ready-I recommend Schwalbe G Ones 40mm), a 48/32 crank and 11*32 cassette  11 speed bike.  Comfy geometry so easy to ride longer distances. Mudgurards mounts aswell for winter
