seized skewer

    removed my front wheel to fit new brake pads the other day and discovered i can’t get the qr skewer out of the hub. it’s not stopping me from getting the wheel back on but clearly this could be a problem. i’ve tried WD40/lubricant etc and a gentle tap but it’s not shifting. any suggestions?

    If it is really seized in the

    If it is really seized in the hub, I wouldn’t ride it till it was freed up. The dropout will be clamped tight by the lever end, but at the other end it will only be the finger tight nut holding the wheel in. I’m assuming here you have a traditional QR – less of an issue if it’s bolt through. 

    If it is straight, then the QR cam could be used to draw it out. Penetrating oil, then a spacer between cam and hub, and then close the lever.

    3-in-1 penetrating oil, lots

    3-in-1 penetrating oil, lots of it, leave it overnight, more oil, leave it overnight – then use a bit of force.

    Before you do that, check the threaded section isn’t bent, stopping it from coming out.
