Looking for a bike mechanic in Bristol

    Hi guys,

    I currently have a battered 11 year old Focus aluminium bike which (and it’s a long story) has an almost brand new Shimano 105 5800 groupset and quite nice wheels. I have now purchased a carbon frame from PlanetX (along with headset, fork bung, spacers, stem) and am looking for a mechanic that can move all the nice components to the Planet X frame. I thought briefly of doing it myself but after seeing the 8+ specialised tools and watching the guy cutting the carbon fork with a facemask on  thought “are yo’ crazy?”. But I feel like some of the mechanics might be good at servicing bikes but I need someone who is a bit special for this job. Any recommendations would be AMAZING!

    Before they closed down the guys at Roll for the Soul had become my go to place. Their main mechanic has started his own thing, might be good availability now as he is quite new as his own business. http://www.benscycleworkshop.com/

     

    Big fan of Jake’s, but there is generally a bit of a waiting list for work.

     

    Bike UK everything seems super expensive, guess you’re paying partly for the location and nice big footprint shop.

    I’ve had good experiences
    I’ve had good experiences with bikeuk – they are my go to for jobs I can’t do (carbon steerer cutting). Muddock are good too. I can’t recommend Evans cycles…

    In the centre, might be worth having a word with Jakes Bikes behind the bus station.  They build their own Bristol Bikes so I’m pretty sure they could help with building yours yes

    If you’re east of the city, I can recommend Andy at Holy Spokes. Really helpful and friendly plus good value for money too. They also collect and drop off bikes within certain areas.

    Thanks Joe! Yeah, for me this is like Nasa-level rocket science, but it sounds like it is actually quite straightforward for a bike mechanic. I’ll walk over to mudworks at lunch and see if I like them. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

    There isn’t anything

    There isn’t anything particularly difficult there from what I can see – most bike mechanics could do the job.

    I’ve always had good service from Mud dock (by the swing bridge on the harbour) and Bike UK (on the triangle) for work I’ve had done in the past.

    In terms of specialised tools I’m imagining it’s just a headset press and maybe a bottom bracket press (if press fit). Not sure about cutting the carbon steerer if the fork has one – guess just a face mask and certain type of saw blade.
