Recommend 42 – 44 cm CX bike / frame

    I am lookig to get my girlfriend a new bike as Christmas present. She wants to get it to CX racing for a while, so I think it will make a perfect present.

    Problem is sizing. Most of manufacturers don’t even do frames below 48 cm. She is 150cm tall, so frame needs to be very small. But not junior type, those normally come with 650c wheels and are generally heavy.

    Since we are speaking CX it means disk breaks mounts and relaxed geometry for more upright position.

    Any sugestions please?

    What about a small
    What about a small specialized sirrus and convert to drops. There are plenty of options out there both size and spec wise including carbon.
    I converted a spesh globe pro to drops and it’s about as good as you’ll get for versatility whilst being a decent handling bike.

    A 44 is probably too big, I have not seen anything smaller in the UK. A custom with 650b or 26 inch wheels would have better geo.

    CAADX is a nice frame. I have it myself in 54cm. Didn’t knew they were making 44cm ones.

    Agree on the fit. I would prefer to get a complete bike so she would be able to try and decide if it fits well. If not return it. With buying frame and building it that would be imposible. Not ideal scenario, and then where is a chance “sorry babes, i hoped it will fit you. will return it and you can pick a bike you like”. A bit sour.

    Hmmm, the XS still looks a bit big (and long) for a 150cm rider and the Giant sizing table doesn’t even list a height less than 5’3″. CAADX would be worth a look but having a sit on one is the only way to be sure. Luath Pro (carbon, discs, 8kg) is cheaper than the Giant.

    One of the women in my old

    One of the women in my old club is equally not a big person so ended up with a Islabikes CX this was quite a few years ago, I believe she was quite happy with it. But though she does race don’t think she was that serious about CX.

    Islabikes Luath. OK, it’s a child’s bike, but it definitely not heavy and comes in a 700c version. My daughter has one, it’s really an all-rounder but will be fine for CX. Only issue you may have is that it has cantis rather than disc brakes, but this is traditional for CX and won’t put her at a disadvantage.
