My irregular feature highlighting not close passes caught on camera from around the country – today it’s all happening on the Roads around the Peak District…
Today’s video told in the format of words on a page features a driver who, despite making a cock up, tookthe right plan of action to the appreciation of a cyclist.
The incident happened yesterday as a cyclist (me) had climbed the Cat & Fiddle following a lovely bacon bap in Marston. Following a tricky climb through Wincle there was a nice long straight piece of road where two cars passed a cyclist leaving ample room. I told me I was worried about what looked like it was about to happen:
“I saw a Mercedes pass shortly after another car had passed, both giving decent space. The Merc then applied the brakes relatively sharply and indicated left, I was traveeling around 20mph and worried a left hook was in the offing”
This is quite a common ocurrence for cyclists up and down the Country but I added:
“Not sure if it was a late Sat Nav alert or the driver was unfamiliar with the road but her or she was aware of the danger, abandoned the move and continued further up the road. They used a side street to the right to make an about turn and I waved in appreciation that they put my safety over saving a few seconds”.
Over the years alan has reported on literally one incident of decent driving involving well driven vehicles from every corner around my proximity – so few, in fact, that I’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into an irregular feature on the site
