Bob's Bikes
Hi everybody I am hoping someone can help me with this, I bought a rear light/camera unit from Aldi (complete rip off of the fly 6) but unlike the fly this unit turns itself off when on long journeys.
Any suggestions (within reason knowing some of the comments on this site) would be appriciated.
BTW at the moment I am running it with a 8gb micro sdhc card will be changing up to a 32gb shortly.

I thought at first it didn’t because it was turning off when I thought it was a full card, for 8GB anyway. I had a spare 16GB same thing.
However when out cycling with someone else with the same camera he mentioned a firmware fix to stop it shutting down. I’ve applied the fix and tested the lamp – left it on.
It turned off after 6 hours and the card has recorded over itself- last recordings left.
So about 2 hours of recording and 6 hours of battery in a stationary position and with 16GB card.

The only cycling tech I’ve
The only cycling tech I’ve bought from Aldi in the past was their heart rate monitor and it was horrific. It constantly failed to register a pulse (no i didn’t die) for extended periods of time and was incompatible with any standard fitness apps or head units other than their own smartphone app. Don’t get me wrong recording the HR on its own via the app is fine but obviously you want to see this data in comparison to other metrics so it was a bit obsolete. Then again what do you expect for £15 or thereabouts, so I didn’t even bother returning it.
If you want a unit that works flawlessly save up a bit more and buy the fly6/fly6CE. Aldi is fantastic for their tools, maintenance stuff and very basic apparel. However I would avoid any of their tech (unless its the Garmin head units they offer) or items such as waterproofs as I found their performance to be quite poor. gloves, socks etc. are well worth the money you pay though.

Sorry Aldi but this one is another fail.
It worked fine on my best bike and remained in position during rides of up to 3 hours on rough roads. However, it swung about all over the place when on my winter bike and I couldn’t understand why.
Then I realised that the difference was the position of the seat tube clamp. The clamp is a circle with a flattened bottom and a straight edge, on my best bike the flattened part faced backwards and the camera sat on the ‘shelf’ area it made. My winter bike had the circular section of the clamp facing backwards, so nowhere for the camera to lodge itself.
I turned the clamp on the winter bike to the same orientation as my best bike and the camera did not move during this morning’s 2.5 hour ride.

I would suggest you all ditch
I would suggest you all ditch the cheap shit and just get a Fly6. A camera isn’t any good if you can’t rely on it, and this, it seems, can’t be relied on.
I’ve had my issues with Cycliq over one or two small things, but generally I can say I’m pretty happy with the price for the Fly6 (and the Fly12, though thats maybe a little bit less of a bargain, more of an ‘about right’ price).

Well have now changed the sd
Well have now changed the sd cards for 32gb and no difference, this is really annoying as like others I bought two one blacked out so I can use it as a front camera one as rear light/camera.
The rear camera is the one that switches itself off after twenty minutes or so BUT the front unit carries on going throughout ride! (last week went on a ride that lasted just over an hour the light/camera beeped and went off after 15-20 mins but after I turned it back on it stayed on for the rest of journey)
Really cannot understand this
p.s. have been to the site mentioned above and got the software update didn’t make any difference.

I’m having the same problem
I’m having the same problem as Bob, but I’m not worried about the light because I’ve painted over the light and using it as a front camera, attached to the handlebars.

I have one but haven’t got round to trying it yet. Thought I’d wait and see if the problems were resolved first before giving it a go!
