Instability due to weight?

I’ve recently stepped up to a decent Ridley Fenix SL frame and added some carbon wheels.

I was highway excited to ride it until my first descent where it developed a large front end shake which nearly threw me off the bike.

I’ve ridden the descent many times and never had this issue.

Tested the bike with different wheels and had no issues what so ever yet trying 2 pairs of carbon wheels both cause shake/wobble when I descend.

Is it possible that a frame/wheel combo can be too light for a riders style and adding extra front end weight solves the issue?

    Thanks

I too thought of speed wobble but the same bike on a different front wheel resolved the issue.

fuerhwrmore a far more experienced rider on the bike had exactly the same issue.

I’ll get the wheels checked for trueness, thanks.

I’d agree with checking the wheels are true, but it sounds like speed wobble:

Wheels need to be checked for trueness and flex under load. If they are not sufficiently strong and flex under descending loads=crap wheels.

Also bear in mind deep section carbon wheels catch cross winds more easily. I know this as I have two pairs of 60mm deep carbons and cross winds move the bike around. Nothing too frightening, but you need to be aware of it
