Dt Swiss 240 hub bearings

    I’ve a dt Swiss 240 rear hub which needs  new bearings. I disasembled the hub and identified the bearings that need changing myself after lbs failed to be able to remove free hub. (Took me and a friend 2 mins with a bearing pull).

    My question is are all 6902 bearings created equal? Dt ones are 9.99 each. Where as chain reaction for example has after market bearings for 2.99. In total there are 4 bearings so price difference is condsiderable. Does anyone have experience of this?

    SKF bearings, I remember

    SKF bearings, I remember getting those 40years ago for my Skateboard!!  Jesus I feel old!

    German and japanese bearings

    German and japanese bearings (skf, nsk) are some of the best and are around £10 each and can be had from your local bearing supplier, just take your old bearing in and they will match it to ones they have instock

     

    The cheaper bearings (£2.99) are chinese bearings, the seals and grease generaly aren’t as good as the german and japanese bearings but they are perfectly fine to use but will most likely only last a couple of years if used reguarly in all weathers

     

    Most sub £500 wheels come with chinese bearings and most £500+ wheels come with japanese/german bearings

     

    If your feeling really flush then there are ceramic bearings but your looking at £80+ for each one

    SKF are quality ones. You could also find Enduro. Make sure you know the dimensions. 5 GBP steel bearings (SKF for example) should be fantastic.
