Right then, I am after people’s thoughts for respraying a new Cannondale Caad12 frame…..

A gloss or matte painted frame? Matte with gloss graphics? Or dare I say gloss with matte graphics?!

I’m thinking of a two colour paint job with mainly a dark blue and accents in a lighter colour.

Gloss finish seems to be a little more straightforward to take care of. If you’re a stickler for keeping it shiny, occasionally applying some car wax on the frame will do the job.

I do wonder how different it is for a matte finish frame though. Is the same treatment of car wax as effective on such paint? Will keeping it clean require a different surface treatment? I am curious because matte finish paint on cars seems to have a lot of its own idiosyncrasies – perhaps not a direct comparison to matte finish paint on bikes but maybe worth knowing nonetheless.

I just want to build up a new bike that’s totally unique and just for me. Plus the frame may be great but I’m not such a fan of the paint job!

I’ve been having a look at

I’ve been having a look at Fat Creations and saw their Stars and Stripes version of a Cannondale Caad12. Whilst that’s far too busy for me the silver on the design is the brushed aluminium of the frame. I think that looks cool! So I’ve emailed them asking about doing that for the emblems and lettering and having the rest a dark/inky blue in gloss. Nice and simple hopefully classy! I’m waiting for Ali to reply though, not sure how quick he is at replying. His stuff look amazing though!

    I personally prefer the gloss

I personally prefer the gloss look, rather than the matte.    matte seems to be quite trendy at the moment though

pros and cons for both paints.  With the gloss it will show up dirt easier, but smudges can be hard to remove from matte.   I heard as well that matte finishes can chip more easily and colour can look a bit chalky.

gloss is easier to clean and colour will have more depth.

What colour were you thinking for the lighter colour?  Light Blue would be nice with the dark blue
