New Zealand (Auckland) bike shops

    Hi, a (lucky) pal of mine is moving to Auckland in a few months. He’s looking for a new bike after having his written off in an accident, so does anyone know of any good bike shops in NZ? It’s a choice of whether to buy here and ship it over, or wait until he gets there. I’d guess that prices may be a bit more there to cover the shipping costs from Europe/USA?

    Any advice very much appreciated (by him – I’ll just remain jealous…). Thanks.

    Bike Lab, Parnell, and Wallis

    Bike Lab, Parnell, and Wallis Cycles Mt Wellington are both good traders, Bike Barn, Evolution Cycles, and Avantiplus are all large tnational raders with good back up and reputations. It will *probably* be cheaper to buy in US and pay excess luggage to take the bike to NZ (I recently took my bike on a trip to OZ and paid NZ$65 excess baggage, a friend went to colorado and paid NZ$85)

    I’m going in March for a

    I’m going in March for a month and got in touch with Wiggle re cost of sending their cheapest road model there. Its about £185 and maybe more if NZ Customs are in a mood, so I’m going to buy a 2nd hand bike from someone using trademe.co.nz, which is NZ’s version of ebay, and then leave it for my bro to sell on when I leave.

    Bike hire costs that I’ve seen quoted are pretty high too, mainly low end Trek bikes.

    And dont even bother looking at courier parcel services! Good luck MB

    Mount Eden cycles seemed

    Mount Eden cycles seemed quite good when I was there.  A shop up the hill and round the cornerewere very helpful as well – can’t remeber the name.

    Wiggle do post to NZ, a friend told me when I was there.

    He says there were a couple of decent bike shops in Auckland, but no recommendations. Also said:

    “Cheaper to buy here. Best would be to buy here and ship there. Wouldn’t pay VAT and their GST is 15% so you should save at least 5%. Both Sigma and Wiggle can specify NZ delivery which recalculates prices. Although some heavier items they won’t ship.”

    Hope that makes sense.

    My cousin bought here and
    My cousin bought here and shipped over.
    I believe Wiggle deliver to Aus, not sure about NZ.
    There is no Amazon in NZ either – you have to buy from the US.
    Will ask if there’s anywhere he recommends.
