Touching up a steel frame

    Partner’s town bike has acquired a lot of chips in the paint over the past year. It’s not worth respraying at this stage, but I’d like to protect it from rust — anyone have thoughts on products I could use to seal the exposed spots?

    Something clear would be ideal, obviously.

    Thinking laterally, what about a light rubdown (the frame, not your partner) and a couple of coats of household gloss of a similar shade (assuming it’s not a multi-coloured job)? Reasonably hardwearing, do a tube or two at a time as you can be bothered, and it looks like new for a while.

    Any decent clear coat or lacquer will do the job but I can vouch for the Rustoleum having used it on my Cougar refurb
