Alternative to specialized diverge

    Hello, 

    was wondering if anyone could make a recommendation. 

    I have been keen to buy a Specialized diverge carbon expert for a while, however, have been put of by the non standard SCS rear through axels due to potential issues in replacing wheels in the future and incompatibility with direct drive turbo trainers. 

    Therefor I am now considering other options, key requirements  

    • compatable with direct drive turbo trainers 
    • capable on gravel
    • close to road race geometry ( to ensure still optimised for road).
    • semi compact gearing.
    • support upto 35c tires 

    any suggestions welcome.

    I’ve got a Diverge Pro Carbon

    I’ve got a Diverge Pro Carbon, and the wheelset that came with it is superb. I’m not really bothered about the SCS situation as I can’t think of a wheelset I’d rather have on the bike. It also came with an adaptor to allow easy use on the turbo, although as we’re now into spring I haven’t needed it yet. I’ve loved the bike, although the adjustment to compact gearing has and continues to be a strange one. I suspect that in time to come I’ll buy a DA semi-compact to put on it and sell the S-Works one that came on the bike.

    GT Grade 105 / Ultegra carbon

    GT Grade 105 / Ultegra carbon. they just got a lot more expensive though but shop around. Maybe the best bike in the world for what you just described.

    I had the same thought about Specialized moving to 142×12, however looks like the diverge has been updated online on Specialized website as the Carbon Comp is now a different colour (was Lime Green) and the wheels have been updated from the AXIS 4.0 SCS to AXIS 460 SCS.

    The expert also has the same wheelset change and a price drop.

    This had me worrying that they are not going to to update the diverge this time round from the SCS standard 🙁

    I’ve had my On-one bish bash

    I’ve had my On-one bish bash bosh for just over a month and love it. It is heavier than my road bike but quicker because it’s less skittish on the crappy roads.  It’s Sram, which doesn’t suit everyone, but I find easier to change when in the drops.

    I thought I read the 2017

    I thought I read the 2017 Specialized bikes so far have moved away from SCS, to more standard 12×142 TA dimensions. (eg http://road.cc/content/tech-news/198725-specialized-crux-2017-cyclocross-bikes-unveiled-142mm-thru-axle-and-price)

    Also, FWIW I was in the Specialized brand shop in Singapore a couple of weeks ago and they indicated the 2017 Roubaix would have wider clearance than current model. But they couldn’t confirm. I was asking about 32c tyres/tires though.
