Ventoux in early May

    I was thinking about trying to climb Ventoux 3 times in a day in the early May bank holiday but have heard that some of the roads might be shut. Anyone any experience of riding it that time of year?

    Better to delay?

    I may have been unlucky but

    I may have been unlucky but my outing to Ventoux in early May 2010 coincided with a spell of foul weather.  Although it was mid-teens in the valley it was well below freezing by the 15km point with icy patches and dense fog.  The road had been cleared but snow drifts were six-feet high in places.

    Somehow, and despite a lack of essential things like full-fingered gloves, we made it to the summit but we had to cram into the cafe and warm up on the heaters.  A few people were showing definite signs of hypothermia.

    On the way down my hands were so cold I couldn’t trust myself to brake effectively so I walked a couple of miles rather than disappear over the edge and into the trees at fifty mph.

    Oh, by the way, I loved every second.

    *Should be ok. I’ve ridden

    *Should be ok. I’ve ridden the Cingles twice in early May – on 1st and 11th. Once the last couple of hundred metres of the Malaucene climb hadn’t been completely cleared but it was walkable – and not a very long walk.

    Good time of year to do it 🙂

     

     

    *it’s a mountain…you can never guarantee anything 😉
