Time xpresso exploded!

Just got to Cornwall on holiday and 50 yards into my first ride my new Time Xpresso pedal 'xploded' - the carbon spring exited the left pedal and is nowhere to be found (I assume it left at quite a speed). Anyone else have this issue or is this likely a one-off? Will be looking to find a local place to buy a replacement tomorrow and wondering if I should be giving Time the benefit of the doubt or not. Can't find any indication that I shouldn't with a Google search etc.
