    Hi All,

New to cycling and also this forum,

I have done a daft thing as we all do when we have had a drink or two and had a bet with someone that by the end of the year I will do a 100mile bike ride event.
Thought it wont be so bad but now reality is setting in, Its going to be a up hill battle.
If I win the bet they will donate £1000 to a charity so failure is not an option.

I am looking for any recommendations on bike shops in the East Midlands that will give me good advise and not just try to sell the most profitable bike for them as I don’t even have a road bike.
I don’t have a great budget so want to spend the money wisely.

Looking at different websites it can be a bit confusing for a new to cycling person on what is required & needed for such a challenge.

Thank in advance for any recommendations or helpful advise you can give.

    couple of other suggestions –
couple of other suggestions – JEJames Chesterfield – good range and we’ve had good service from them
Stanley Fearn Matlock – more limited range, but they still have some last year’s models in, which are often good value

    Mercian Cycles in Derby make
Mercian Cycles in Derby make some lovely kit, it might not be in the price range but if you want to drool thats the place.

Ages ago I used to live near Leisure Lakes and things must have changed as the last time I went in there I stood there for 10 minutes waiting to hand some wheels over for a service while a staff member ignored me. So I left. Then my boss from work who also cycles just happened to go in after me with the wheels from his Spesh and he walked out as well after also being ignored for 10 minutes.

Their previous trick was taking a ten percent deposit in cash from me on a MTB and when I returned to collect it on the weekend they had sold it.

Perhaps things have changed over the years and new staff have improved matters but I decided never to offer that bunch of bed wetters my money ever again.

Leisure Lakes Bikes Nottingham (actually Long Eaton) have a great reputation locally within clubs.

    Assuming you’re reasonably
Assuming you’re reasonably active, 100 miles is not impossible especially if you choose the right event and build up to that distance over the next few months.
Pedal Power in Loughborough http://www.pedalpowerbikes.co.uk have always given me plenty of help and advice. The shop is not huge, but they pack in a great range.
For my first bike I went to Rutland Cycling http://www.rutlandcycling.com because they have a huge range to fit most budgets and will let you test ride and/or hire bikes to see what suits best.

    Langdale Lightweights are in
    Langdale Lightweights are in Nottingham.

They have their own team and bikes and they’re pretty much all you see around Nottingham.

Velo Bavarian – Derby. Helpful experienced advice without trying to sell you something you don’t need. A great mechanic runs it too, give them a ring

    The guys at Lutterworth
The guys at Lutterworth Cycles are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.

Like many Local Bike Shops, they are not as cheap as the big online retailers, but they don’t set out to be – the knowledge and advice has a value and a price.
