Which PX Pro Carbon size? 5’7″ with 30″ leg

    My current bike is a size Medium Giant Defy. I am just about to purchase a Planet X Pro Carbon and am after some advice regarding sizing. I am 5’7″ with a 30″ inside leg which puts me at the top end of the small or the bottom end of the medium recommendations. I emailed Planet X and they recommended a medium, however I was hoping to hear from some current owners who may be a similar height or between size recommendations.

    Below is the geometry for my Defy, which shows it has a 54cm top tube. That’s not to say its the optimum size for me, but just the one that I bought as my first road bike, but it has been ok for the past few years I have had it.

    The small PX toptube is 53cm and the medium is 54.7cm. I have heard that the Pro Carbon is a pretty compact frame, more so than the Defy, which is probably why PX recommended a medium.

    Thanks for the advice. Think I have decided on a medium frame with a 90mm stem and I will get a local bike fit once it arrives. Looking at the crucial dimensions of the PX and Defy next to each other, the only significant difference is the headtube is 2cm shorter but I should be able to play around with spacers.

    Just for info, i had a fitting in the edinburgh shop.
    I spent hours in there. Drank loads of coffee. They were really good. That is what also sold it to me.
    The saddle was moved slighlty forward of centre, and yes, a 90mm stem, with a single spacer.

    On the bright side, if it doesnt fit you, you could ‘gift’ it to the wife and get a different sized one, claiming that it would be fantastic if you both rode the same bike,,,,,

    With the wheels, I have fitted old non-brand tires, new ones. Folding and rigid ones.
    While some are definietly easier than others, non are what I would say,,,,easy.
    A friend has a Krysium/gp4000 and the tire almost falls onto the rim, in comparison!!

    If I was you I would consider
    If I was you I would consider getting the medium and then getting a bike fit locally. Adjustments can be made that alter the stem length and crank arms for a more specific fit so there is a bit of maneuverability in a specific frame size. Although it is a bit of extra money it is well worth it.

    I bought I PX RT58 carbon and love it. Living a bit closer to Sheffield than you (about 2 hours) I actually had the bike fitted by PX which was well worth the extra money.

    Interesting petertaylor123 it took me a while to get to grip with the vision team 30 and some gatorskins but I can take them on/off in just a few minutes now a good strong pair of tyre levers and plenty of practice (I tried first without the inner tube) is essential!

    crf1967, my Defy is a Defy 4 from 2010 so nothing too special. Just fancy treating myself to something nicer, plus the other half is looking to start riding too, so I can set her up on the Defy and then justify my n+1! 🙂

    The Defy is a great bike though, although mine is obviously not as well specced as the composite ones but I really like the look of it and it rides well.

    Good to hear that you visited the store and preferred the feel of the medium.

    I’m looking at the same bike
    I’m looking at the same bike and dropped into the Sheffield store last week on my way to a meeting.

    I’m 5’8 with 29.5″ inside leg and definitely medium for me.

    Incidentally the other bike I am looking at is a Giant Defy Composite 3 – again in medium. The 2014 is basically the same price as the PX Pro Carbon and I am trying to decide on which one – I’d be interested in the OP’s opinion of the Defy and why the move to PX.

    It would be about an 8 hour
    It would be about an 8 hour round trip to go and see the bike in the flesh, as I live down south. My purpose for riding is the same as you, won’t be racing on it. I do think the medium is the way to go, may spec a slightly shorter stem than the 100mm default though. I asked the same question on another forum and a few similar proportioned riders said medium also. I think the small will be too racy for enjoyable weekend rides and sportives.

    Thanks for the info about the wheels, it does indeed come with those, but will probably change them for some Fulcrums at some point.

    Is there no way you can go and ride them? If nothing else, they will let you spend a bit time on a turbo in the shop.

    Im pretty much the same measurements as you.
    Ive been on a medium for about 12months.
    I dont race. I cycle for fitness and enjoyment.
    It suited me fine on a JOGLE trip and all the century rides and hill training.
    Its going to the alps this summer for sime col climbing.
    The small only has one bottle cage mount. Big down side for me.
    The medium will only fit a small bottle on the seat tube mount. But that is fine for a tool kit in a bidon anyway.

    If it comes with the Vision Team 30’s do not,,,,i say again,,,,, do not get a puncture. Ever. They are a frigging nightmare.
    My record is 35mins to fit a conti GP 4000. That was inside, being warm and dry.
    I really need to change them.

    Not sure whether it is just me, but I cannot fit/remove a wheel with a 25mm GP 4000 on either the front or the back, while the tire is inflated.
    I have to fit the wheel, the inflate the tyre. (And yes,,,I had undone the brakes

    im the same height with the
    im the same height with the same inside leg , ive had my pro carbon for 3 weeks and love it. i was worried when i ordered my medium that it would be to big but its absolutley perfect for me B-) your gonna love it :X
