Mark Cavendish’s comeback to drugs question

Not sure if people have seen this he was asked by a journalist whether he is 100 per cent sure all professional riders aren’t taking drugs.

    His response was:

“Can you tell me 100 percent that one of these journalists isn’t f**king your wife?”

He then went on to say:

“Where there’s money to be gained, there’ll be the odd d***head who cheats but cycling is miles ahead of other sports when it comes to testing,” he added.

“I hope everyone’s correct but with human nature, you can never be certain. But the positive that I can take is that if someone is cheating, he will be caught.”

Fair point I would be annoyed if I got asked that every time I was about to go to work. But he could have done it in a better way.

It’s daft, isn’t it. The doping question is always on the table, because, well, it kind of has to be. But to expect sane responses from the riders during press conferences – what do they expect? Some of the riders will try to cheat, and some will get away with it. There’s nothing much the clean riders can do about it. Unless there’s any proof, they can’t point at suspected riders because theres the not insignificant issue of libel. And the rather more significant issue of sponsors and the money that allows the sport to run.
Cav’s response, looking beyond the abrasive retort, was spot on. Is it clean? No way to be 100% sure, but it’s as clean as the clean riders can make it. What more are they supposed to do?

    That’s not like Cav….no
    That’s not like Cav….no wait….

I swear reporters are getting worse with regards to the creativity of their probing, same old shit everytime, not just in cycling but every sport. Boring, and awkward to watch a lot of the time too.

I haven’t seen anybody question Nibali either, which I find strange considering everything.

    Go Cav! must be very
Go Cav! must be very frustrating getting asked about it all the time, and always to the cyclists with a clean history.
The amount of testing in place now is really good, and hope that those dark days are slowly fading away.

said in many places far worse sports for drugs than cycling now, they get caught because there are so many tests.

Compare to other sports like football etc.

    Why?
    Nothing wrong with that

    Why?
Nothing wrong with that and it will get the point across that it is about time journalists stopped banging on the drugs drum because they cannot think of a clever question.
