Want to upgrade my groupset from 2300 to 105 but don’t have the immediate funds so was going to do it in parts. If I were to get a 105 compact crank, would I be able to use it with 2300 8 speed rear?

Well I was thinking as I have a 52/39 crank at present switching to a compact would help me on the hills and get me started on the upgrade process, plus if I were to change the rear derailleur first I would have to change the cassette and the chain so I was thinking the crank and bottom bracket would be the easiest first step.

Not sure why you would change the crank first . . .
