    I agree that this upgrade
I agree that this upgrade probably won’t deliver much value for the money unless the old parts are in need of replacement for other reasons.

(And it’s true, you can use quite old Shimano rear derailleurs with 10 speed, with a few exceptions such as 6/7/8 speed Dura Ace which are different.)

Ah, I have just read the original post properly and can see if was on a cross bike, so scratch the calliper comments!

I’d deffo keep on with Sora though. 9 speed chains last longer and the offers slightly more mud clearance / less sensitivity than 11 speed, and rear mechs are consumables in ‘cross so a cheap one is a bonus. Or at least wait until the Sora one is totalled before changing anything.

Are you sure the rear mech
Are you sure the rear mech will work? The cassette will be wider than a 9 speed one and the jockey wheels might be a bit wide for an 11 speed chain?

I’m not an expert. Personally I wouldn’t bother unless something was actually broken. Then I would be tempted to change most of the group set (except, perhaps the chainset and front mech). I vaguely recall the brake lever pull is tied to the calliper too, so it may be sub optimal with Sora callipers and 105 levers.

    The Sora rear derailleur
The Sora rear derailleur should work fine.

Start with the shifters, chain and cassette and see how you like it. You may be happy stopping there.
