Smart or flashy wheels

    fulcrum zeros or zipp 60 are an option in my budget can get a good deal

    Do I go smart or flashy

    Any suggestions I have £700 and live in suffolk so pretty flat
    no problem with rider weight and I don’t want tubulars (like having the piece of mind of a tube in my pocket)

    How much do you feel the crosswinds where you are? I used to live near Bury St Edmunds and the winds were strong. The weight penalty of the Zipps may not be that noticeable in your region, but if the crosswins catch the rims you’ll feel it.

    I’d go for the Fulcrums if they would just offer some different graphics, the black/red/white looks crap.

    Then again, what about Soul S3.0/S4.0 or Tune Black Series?

    I used to ride Mavic Aksiums,
    I used to ride Mavic Aksiums, damaged the front rim and replaced them with a set of Fulcrum Racing 3s a couple of years ago. They definitely feel stiffer, I used to get brake rub when out of the saddle I don’t on the 3s. They feel like they accelerate up to speed quicker. I doubt it has made a huge difference to the speed I cycle at, but they are just nicer to ride with.

    It is alot lumpier where I live than Suffolk so I would go for the Fulcrums, but each to their own.

    Yeah I know the zeros are the smart choice but you can’t disagree for £650 the zipps look amazing

    Bearing in mind I’m on 2012 askium race wheels at the moment so how much difference will I notice
    Do the aero carbon on the 60’s make allot of difference or the ceramic bearings on the zeros?
    Bearing in mind it’s £100 more for the zeros

    Fulcrum zeros. Zipp 60s are gonna be almost half a kilo heavier on your bike. The zero is one of the best alloy clinchers around, the Zipp 60 on the other hand is a very entry level carbon/alloy wheelset. Take off the the Zipp sticker and the 60 really isn’t all that compelling a wheelset.

    Have Fulcrum 3’s and love
    Have Fulcrum 3’s and love them. Go aluminum, go cool. Legendary campagnolo durability can’t be wrong

    Is that a particular hazard in your part of the country? Would you recommend riding 23s or 25s on that?……oh, I know you hate me, but I couldn’t resist.

    a pair of tokyowheel carbon clinchers will set you back around £700 from memory… awesome wheels!
