Powertorque bottom Bracket

I’ve had a power-torque bottom bracket for a few years now, and it’s almost always creaking. Despite taking it to a number of bike shops/replacing the bearings and even a new chain set/cups a few months ago. What alternatives are there for the existing bottom bracket since the campag design is so poor?

    My Power Torque BB hasn’t
My Power Torque BB hasn’t creaked once in 4,000km, but then it was installed to the correct torque spec, in a perfectly square shell, without any grease (see the Campag tech doc). Can you be certain that your LBS did the same?

The only creak I’ve had out of that particular bike, which I could have sworn was eminating from the bottom bracket, turned out to be the rear QR. I did it up He-Man tight and the creak went away. I would be very surprised if your creak is related to the BB, given that you’ve replaced all of it AND the chainset to no avail.

I don’t think the PT design particularly flawed, although it has taken some stick for requiring a bearing puller to get the crank arm off; with Ultra Torque, you only need an allen key. I don’t think that’s anything particularly new; you used to have to use a crank puller to get square taper cranks off, back in the day.

I’m rambling, but take it to a LBS and have them do a chase & face on your BB shell, make sure it’s square and the correct width, then reinstall the cups and cranks. Let us know how you get on!

    If that fails skip it!

As above, not a squeak out of the Power Torque BB but my bars occasionally squeak when i am out of the saddle (also on a Ti frame!) Coincidence Mr Holmes I think!

got one frame that all 3
got one frame that all 3 major makers cranks
creaked …. that was the one that once faced
    was fixed !!!

on the other hand my ti frame makes no noises
at all until you’re out of the saddle. that turned
out to be the bars creaking in the stem.

I installed mine myself, I’m a cack-handed amateur, and I’ve never had a squeak out of it. But my frame was square and the threads were clean, perhaps that’s the difference?

Mine also creaked and my efforts to silence it failed, so eventually I got rid of it. I’ve used several other cranksets in the same bike with no issues, so it doesn’t seem to be a problem with frame.

I’ll have a go at rebuilding

    Have you looked for other
Have you looked for other sources of the creak? Lots of noises are mistakenly blamed on the BB – pedals, cleats, seat posts clamps, the frame…

Power Torque isn’t normally associated with phantom noises like newer press fit standards, especially seeing as you’ve already replaced pretty much everything.

have you had the frame checked ?? Chase and face fixed mine …. 9 months now
