Can someone please explain how the tour de France works this year?

Guys will cycle around parts
Guys will cycle around parts of the Uk and France on push bikes, followed by lots of ex cyclists, media and support crew spewing pollution into the air.

There are sprinters, climbers and general tough guys who will race to Paris, the one with the lowest cumulative time is the winner.
