Canyon Sizing

    I have ordered a Canyon Inflite Al 8.0s for the purposes of winter training. I used their PPS sizing & it put me on a 58cm. Now a Canyon 58cm seems a bit smaller than other 58cm I am accustomed to. With an effective top tube of 56.3cm and a 57cm seat tube, head tube measures 16cm.

    I currently ride a 58cm Scott CR1 with a 110mm stem and am very content. This has a top tube of 57.5cm, seat tube 58cm, 19.6cm.

    The 60cm Canyon measures up with a 58.2cm top tube, 59.5cm seat tube, 18cm head tube.

    My measurements are:
    Height 187cm
    Inseam 89cm
    Torso length 62cm
    Shoulder width 46cm
    Arm length 64.5cm

    So what would you put me on a 58cm or 60cm? One or the other with either a 120mm stem or 100mm stem respectively. Just worried about the saddle to handlebar drop with the 58cm which I imagine would be quite a lot.

    Went for the 58cm with 120mm
    Went for the 58cm with 120mm stem in the end.

    Also had a go at competitive cyclist fit calculator. With competitive fit puts me on a bike with big seat tube & short top tube. In that case the Canyon fit should be perfect!

    I reckon both would fit you.
    I reckon both would fit you. Just comes down to whether you want a marginally bigger frame. Or choose the smaller one and get the weight advantage. The reach on the canyons is notoriously short. I do find myself much more upright on the bike than I expected. Let us know what you decide to do!

    I was nervous about a bad fit when I ordered mine but as soon as I started riding it, it was the perfect fit.

    Pretty sure my measurements are correct. My wife took them twice.

    Actually I did try playing around on the PPS. The only measurements that seemed to change the bike size was inseam.

    Barters, my inseam is 900mm. This was one of the hardest measurements for me to figure out correctly. Just how hard do you pull the stick up into your crotch? (Cue the jokes)

    I can’t remember what my torso measurement was. I can try to find it if you need it for comparison.

    I took my measurements on several different occasions to see whether I got the same results. I presume you have done this?

    Also, have you tried upping your measurements slightly to see whether the canyon ppc calculator upgrades you to a 60?

    As someone once said, you can make a smaller bike bigger but you can’t make a bigger bike smaller.

    I also repeatedly measured my previous bike with the canyon measured to try to guess how the canyon would fit me.

    My Ultimate AL is a 58cm and
    My Ultimate AL is a 58cm and I’m 184cm. You do seem borderline and it will depend on your torso<>leg length proportions.

    I’ve got an ultimate al in a
    I’ve got an ultimate al in a 60cm. I’m 1.88m tall. Leg wise, it fits me fine. I do find the top tube is quite short though. Having said that, when I asked them to send me a longer stem 130mm, I found that was too long.

    Not sure if any of that helps you but you’re obviously right on the border of 58 or a 60.

    Have a look at bikecad.ca so you can compare your excisting bikes geometry with the Canyon. Beware thi=ough the site can become addictive.

    That’s not the easiest bike
    That’s not the easiest bike fit data to use for a new bike!
    I think it works out at 59cm for the top tube + stem, similar to what you have on the cr1, and close to the size 60 with a 110 stem

    The bike fit gives a saddle to bars drop of 7.5cm, around 67cm from bb to bars, which might be easier to achieve with the 60, the 58 is going to need a flipped stem I would say, if the steerer comes cut with 25cm spacer and a stack of59cm. Still might be a bit lower than ideal though with the 60 as they are quite racy..

    This is a common problem with Canyon, their bikes are clearly brilliant but sizing questions are a real pain. For what it’s worth when I considered purchasing one I found their staff to be quite unhelpful with regards to similar sizing questions I had. I emailed a bike fit I had done with some questions, the response to which was basically use our site’s “Perfect Positioning System” and completely ignored my questions. I appreciate they do offer exchanges, but I for one couldn’t be bothered with that kind of hassle.

    I am 188 and just ordered a L
    I am 188 and just ordered a L (58) ultimate SLX.
    Luckily I could chat to the guy in the Kingston shop and he was really helpful. The bike fits great after a bike fit at Wyndy Milla with stick stem etc. the length in the seat post makes a huge difference to road comfort but was advised off the split post as I am 90+ kg and at that weight they warned of slippage. Again, nice to have advice instead of sales pitch! Hope this helps?
