Road wheels, freehubs and sprocket cassettes.

    I have Giant P-SL1 road wheels that has a Shimano 105 11-28 cassette fitted. The wheel hubs are DT-Swiss.

    I have just had my freehub repaired. I am told it had a broken spring.

    I am interested to know if the freehub will have come fitted to the wheel and will be Dt-Swiss or if it has to be matched to the cassette and will be Shimano.

    Freehubs are part of the hub,
    Freehubs are part of the hub, so it is a DT Swiss component.

    [url=sheldonbrown.com/k7.html]Freehub / cassette system[/url] was invented by Shimano, and replaced the old system of a separate hub and screw on freewheel + sprockets. The old system was bad because the drive side bearing was some distance from the dropout, and this put stress on the axle, which used to regularly bend or break.
