New Tyres

As I need some new tyres for the first time I’ve been looking around and I see that quite a few tyres also have a folding version which is usually around a fiver dearer and are lighter. Out of interest do these folding versions perform differently than the ‘normal’ ones e.g. are they as tough, do they handle differently, do they last as long?

Lastly I’ve been looking for a good all round tyre and have being eyeing up either Gatorskins, Specialised All Condition or Bontranger All Weather. Any opinions on these?

Just bought a pair of 16″ tyres for the kids trailer from Halfords – £7 less 10% British Cycling discount. Got a tin of GT85 while I was there and used a £10 voucher from an internet survey. Walked out with more cash than I went in with 🙂

+1 for Rubino Pros. Very good all round tyre esp if you can get a deal on them.

If the model/spec of the tyre
If the model/spec of the tyre is the same, as is the case with the Gatorskin and Schwalbe Durano, then the only difference is bead weight – usually made of kevlar instead of wire. The folding bead version is 40 to 50g lighter. I’d suggest either of these two tyres.

    Folding tyres are generally
Folding tyres are generally lighter, easier to fit, but less durable than heavier wire beaded tyres that are often designed for endurance and bad weather riding.

Its June, I say go for for it. Then look at winter tyres again for autumn onwards
