Which tyres

    Need to replace tyres on daughters bike. Continental GP4000s seem to get good reviews – but these or Michelin pro4 Service for her to use as an all round tyre – training & races.

    Any thoughts?

    just put Michelin Pro4
    just put Michelin Pro4 service course on my summer bike recently (obviously not a lot of use yet!) but initial impressions are good. Nice confidence inspiring compound and they haven’t cut up either. Got a sportive (Essex Spring lambs) on Sunday 7th April so we’ll see if I feel the same way next week.. 😀

    Whatever you do, don’t confuse the GP4000S, and the plural of GP4000 (i.e. GP4000s) …

    The GP4000S has the Black Chilli compound, and is an awesome tyre. Good grip, fast according to the test data I have seen, and noticeably comfortable to ride.

    The GP4000 is none of the above 😐

    I know you asked about
    I know you asked about Michelin and continental but definitely +1 for the Vittoria 320tpi they are a really luxurious ride – GF uses them.

    The CX has a fair bit of tread, i think SC is the full on race version. wiggle have the CC for £27 so I’m intending to replace my Michelins with these when they wear out.

    On this occasion speed is the priority – she is doing the Youth Tour of Scotland this weekend. Needed to make a purchase before all the votes were cast, and I plumped for the Pro4’s. They are replacing Pro3’s which she was happy with and have ben problem free so hopefully will be progress!

    Just hope it’s not snowy or icy!

    Contis do get a lot of support, but people stick up for what they ride and may not be able to make a direct comparison to help you here. (Looks like Racingcondor has, however).

    Personally I’ve enjoyed my Michelins but they are a fast racing tyre not an all rounder – is your priority speed or durability? Can’t have 100% of both!

    GP4000 for training every
    GP4000 for training every time. For a one tyre to do it all they are very hard to beat (only problem they have is a relatively poor ride quality).

    For good weather though I’d go Pro4. Smoother ride and much better cut resistance than the Pro3 had. Probably not quite up there with the Conti for durability though.

    Clear majority for Contis, that’s a majority for GP4000s against everything else put together.

    Gp4000. Much better compound and very confidence inspiring. Conti’s Black Chilli Compound gets my vote every time. It just doesn’t let go..
