Monte Faito or Vesuvius

I am going to Naples and Sorrento on a family holiday during October half term and am hoping to negotiate a day away from sightseeing get out on the road. Assuming I mange to get the green light, do any of you have any experience of riding up Vesuvius or Monte Faito? Given one day only my hunch is that Monte Faito would be more enjoyable. Also, has anyone found a good rental company in Naples or Sorrento?

I’ve not cycled either
I’ve not cycled either although I have walked up Vesuvius. The only advice I can offer is that if you were going to cycle to the top, it would need to be on a mountain bike as there’s no paved road – it’s all slippery volcanic ash gravel!
