WTD – 165mm or 170mm Shimano crank arms

I’m looking for some 165mm or 170mm crank arms for my CX bike. Must be Shimano crank arms that are compatible with Hollowtech II, and in black or dark grey.

No chainrings necessary as I’ll be running them with a single ring (cranksets designed for triple or double would be fine). 130BCD preferred, but 110BCD would be considered.

    Anything going?

    Trikeman,

Thanks for the response and for digging in the emporium again!

I don’t want to be restricted to FSA BBs in future and as I’d need to find a new chainring too, I think I’ll leave these for now. Thanks very much for your help though – hope you can get back out of the garage without tripping over anything. 😉

    Hi Pixlemix,
just braved the wettest drought in living memory down here in ‘sunny’ Somerset to get to ‘Trikeman’s Emporium’ and had a quick ganda.
The cranks I have here use a specific BB being 19mm through axle (Omega Mega Exo) same british threaded fitting though, so unless Hope make this spec it would have to be the specific one that’s with it.
Chainrings – I have FSA 50, FSA 34 or SRAM Red 36 in 110, not really what you are looking for there I don’t think.
If the cranks are OK for you I certainl’y wont be looking for much – I throw nothing away here as anything can get me (or the multitudes that frequent my Emporium) out of trouble in the future.
Good luck with the build and if these are not suitable can I recommend a quick look on Planet-X, I get all my cranksets from there and find them hard to beat.
    Regards

    Trikeman. 😉

Hey trikeman, thanks for the reply. Any thoughts on price? A quick google suggest that these are towards the lower end of the FSA range.

They do look like a possibility. I’ve been trying to decide if they would be compatible with Hope BBs, as I intend to use a Hope BB eventually, hence my veering towards Shimano as I know they are compatible.

Have you used FSA crank arms with a Hope or Shimano BB without problems?

I’d also need a new chainring since I have a 130BCD one just now. Got anything in 110BCD and 40-42t in that garage of yours?!

    Welllllll, it is my garage,
Welllllll, it is my garage, but a long garage and a haven for all things bikes.
People (who should be customers in the real world) have been saying to me to wrap up my ‘normal’ job and go back into bikes full time – I usually spend more than a week of my ‘spare time’ in there as it is. At the mo there are about 9 near completion bikes, two or three ready to go’s and the family’s collection of MTBs in there.
Just the boot up the rear end is wanted to just wrap up work and carry on with the bikes (hate to call it a business though – I love it too much).

    Hi Raleigh,
Yes, the ‘garage of many bike parts’, or that’s what it is known as locally – everyone helps themself here… X(

Unfortunately I haven’t got any SRAM Force bits here, certainly not now. Just had a look in there, after tripping over a half completed S-Works frame and getting tangled up in a Boardman reconstruction.

I wish people would put things away….. :”(

    Sorry.

What else you got in that garage?

    Any Sram Force Brakes? 🙂

    Hi Pixelmix,
only reason I asked is if you were local we could meet up. However, you are as far from me as you can get but I am willing to post. It may be cheaper to buy a brand new s-works Tarmac and take it off that, what with the recent postage increases. :”(

    Anyway,
I have just returned from the ‘garage of many bike parts’ and I have an FSA Omega 170mm crankset complete (without rings) 110 bcd with a BB to match. The cranks are a matt black finish and have the ring bolts present.
If you are interested (they are in pretty good nick with just the minimum of rub) drop me a PM with your number and I will send you a photo. Only reason I changed them was due to acquiring an FSA carbon set.
    Here if you want them.
