    Hi

Can anyone recommend a good route from Peterborough to Rutland Water? Looking for a mix of quiet roads and off-road cycle routes. Tried the usual search engines but didn’t really get what I was looking for – ideally something step-by-step with a map.

Any help with the route and tips for places to eat along the way appreciated.

    Cheers

I would suggest you head out
I would suggest you head out of town down Oundle Road before cutting through Elton and then on towards Wansford and Kings Cliffe.

At the bottom of the hill into Kings Cliffe turn right and then safely cross the A47 and then ride into Collyweston.

Cross the main road there and head down the hill into Ketton.

From Ketton village you go straight across and the road will lead you into Normanton and onto Rutland Water.

Its the quickest, quietest and most rural route which means you minimise your time on the major roads.

    You could try this online
You could try this online route mapping:

    http://www.bikeroutetoaster.co.uk

The good thing about it is that when you go onto the site you will a tab named cycle that when its clicked will show all the sustrans routes through the uk and paths too.

And in the bottom left corner (as long as you use the google mapping) you will see the google logo so that whatever area you see in the frame will bring this up in a separate window where you can use street view to see what the roads are like (busy routes, country lanes etc)

If you have a garmin unit you can download the route youve created onto it or if you go onto the tab called cue sheet will give you turn by turn directions that you can print off in either metric or imperial whatever you wish.

Any further help ya need gizza shout
