component dropped off, what’s it called?

Hey, I recent got a new set of cranks/front rings. Working well but then I noticed a part had dropped off then the left arm began to come loose. Thing is I don't know what it is called to look for a replacement. It is the central screwed cover for the hole on the left hand side. Just unscrewed itself and disappeared. The cranks are made by FSA. Any ideas guys? thanks Graeme

This is the fundamental problem with this crank design – you can’t really tighten it too much, as it’s only there to pinch all the components together and take any play out of the assembly. Too much torque and you’ll damage the BB bearings. The bolts on the LH crank are the things that need to be done up tight.

I’d recommend that you put some threadlock onto the thread of the preload bolt to stop it working lose. It may have some pre-applied, but more won’t hurt.
