No Respect

Did anyone else notice the complete ignorance displayed by the BBC to continue interviewing Sir Chris right through the US National Anthem? Looking in the background all the officials and other team members were all standing respectfully for (I think) Sarah Hammer’s medal ceremony but Jill Douglas just barged on.

    Speaking of respect for the
Speaking of respect for the medal ceremonies, I’d just like to tell the SEVEN people in my seating row who stayed seated through the national anthem for the Australian Pursuit team – next time you stand up, respect the ride!!!

Bad manners. There. Off my chest.

Wonderful day otherwise. Favs were team pursuit, despite not winning it a great race and Hoy’s spriting is unbelievable in the flesh, and that Germans legs, mein gott!

They could have switched to something else such as watsisname rattling on. At least that isn’t trackside.

Exactly. If there’s only x number of minutes available for the show and you’re juggling a combination of live and recorded pieces behind the scenes, the miracle to me is that there aren’t more sections where the various presenters don’t stand there saying.”um….”

    My point exactly.

To be fair to the BBC, if
To be fair to the BBC, if they covered all the medal ceremonies there would be more more ceremonial than racing and you’re not saying that the USA is more worthy of coverage than, say, China are you? And there’s no point blaming Jill Douglas; she’s just coping with whatever the producers are firing in her ear. To turn this around, in the unlikely event that a US network was covering this, can you imagine how much non-USA mention there would be? As it is, the appreciation shown towards the GB rivals particularly the threatening ones like Australia, Germany, France, New Zealand and China I thought was pretty even-handed considering it’s the British Broadcasting Corporation.

The missus didn’t have an issue with it, and she’s American đŸ˜‰

At least they played the correct anthem – unlike at the TDF in 2009 when Contador’s win was celebrated by the, er, Danish anthem, or last year’s Giro, when someone dug out the Spanish anthem from the Franco era…

I thought exactly the same and was going to see if anyone else put it up, Yeah i think it had to be Hammer’s gold, because thats the only American medal of any type, Even Chris looked at Jill as if to say, “are you going to stop” but no no, she just rattled on. Thats the BBC for you though
