Frozen waterbottles!

    Anyone know how to prevent water from freezing in your bottles during sub-zero rides? My training buddy today had some sports drink in his which didn’t freeze so that’s one way although I prefer pure water. Do those camelback bottles insulate well enough? The main problem is when the drink bit in the lid freezes solid. Any tips?

    Twitter came up with some good suggestions; mostly involving better-tasting versions of alcohol than straight anti-freeze. You’re good to go with the salty and sugary additions, I think but the Camelbak is a good thought. Now, I wonder if you could put hot tea in a Camelbak?

    Frozen drinking bottles? Now that is hardcore stuff! Try putting a bit of salt in it (makes it isotonic 😉 ) Not too much obviously but a pinch shouldn’t make it unpleasant but will help stop it freezing. Also what do you put in it, plain or with some sort of flavour? A bit of squash or other sugary additive should also help to prevent freezing and mask the slightly salty taste!

    Camelbak works gave it it’s
    Camelbak works gave it it’s first outing of the year today. Heat from your back keeps it just about right, I only use it in the winter as it’s not ideal for me having extra weight on my back

    Don’t know about the bottles though
