Sharing a training tool I built — looking for feedback

    PersonalBestPace (https://app.personalbestpace.com) — AI cycling coach that connects to Strava, Garmin and Wahoo. It models your training load over time, builds a structured periodized plan, and gives you post-ride feedback based on your actual power data. You can also talk to the coach directly — ask it to adjust the week, push back on a session, or explain why it’s scheduled what it has.

    Built it because I couldn’t find a tool that combined proper training science with real adaptability. Free trial, no credit card.

    Especially keen to hear from UK riders who train through winter — managing training load across bad weather weeks is something the adaptive planning was specifically built for.

    It’s not at all obvious to me what it actually does. Just saying that something uses AI doesn’t actually tell you anything at all, without saying what functions the AI provides. Is it using any underlying training philosophy, or can I try out various approaches to see what works for me? Or is it purely based on past data of what has worked, in which case, how is success defined, and where is that data coming from? (If it’s just based on a small number of users to date, I wouldn’t have too much faith in it.) Is it able to adapt to my personal training history, or is it only using what ‘works’ at a population level. Or is it nothing more than a chatbot that can pick out key words and match them to a library of workouts (in which case that seems of minimal usefulness).

    bob_c there is a concept of execution score
    there you can see the hash truth , about how much did you stick with training.
    it compares zones , duration and load

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for the feedback good or bad , all good, i am looking for your experience anyways !

    mdavidford :that is a good idea, let me work on it ,

    planning is done with
    * your current fitness, form,
    * recent activities like their load and their zone distribution.
    * your availability and planing and upcoming events
    * also based on your choice of training (coach) // this is different than most, you can chose your training style
    * your training goals

    Chat is best of both worlds, compared to all others.
    you can manage all your training with buttons and clicks
    or via chat , in most cases, since you can communicate better

    and also training are note monotone , they are usually bit different and spicy then what you would find online , to make training more entertaining.
    so you would not get bored…

    again thanks again for all your feedback if i can reach you , i would like to send 100% discount codes.

    Maybe the chat output could provide more explanation.
    e.g. “you completed a high intensity session yesterday and you have 3h available today. Based on your overall goal to improve your 20 minute power, today a zone 2 ride with 4×10 min tempo efforts is recommended”

    I think the feedback is harsh. Presumably the tone/language can be easily changed by editing the “agent” config.

    Adaptive training is great for people with variable schedules – I use Xert and use the adaptive training advisor, which is essentially “what’s the best workout I could do today, given training history, time available and training goals?”.

    Maybe you should consider what you believe are your USPs. For example, what does the chat function provide – in terms of value to the user – over and above the adaptive training features available on Xert, Trainerroad, Join etc?

    I don’t need a massive resource wasting statistical language model to tell me in weird “bro chat” format, or any format really, to go work out. Is there even any exercise science model behind it, or is it just “generate motivational workout text like a hyperexcited human cycling coach”? Like, if I overdid it yesterday, but said what your example user said, would it ever tell me to reconsider and take a day off?

    I suspect that this tool merely creates the illusion of being coached. I’ve had friends go down LLM rabbit holes and end up with the illusion that they’ve created novel new physics. This whole bubble will pop in a few years, and good riddance to most of it!

    I suspect most people on here aren’t going to respond well to the Peloton-style hype language (‘BOOM!’; ‘smashed it!’; ‘champion!’; etc.) – something that’s a bit more matter-of-fact might go down better.
