Direct Mount Derailleurs?

    Hi, a question for the group!

    I’m looking at a Framesandgear Direct Mount derailleur hanger for my new build (Wilier Filante SLR) and was wondering if any of you have done this (removing the B-Link) and whether it has impacted shifting or caused any unexpected problems / niggles? I can’t imagine so, but a friend who did similar, albeit on a an SL8 frame, claimed endless indexing issues?

    Yeah it can work fine, just super sensitive to setup.
    If alignment isn’t spot on, you’ll get indexing issues. If you’re careful with setup, go for it—otherwise stock is easier 👍

    I have done this on my new build Winspace SLC5. It has a UDH hanger so the replacement direct mount hanger wasn’t very much (c£15 all in).
    It drops a few grams, looks considerably tidier, and everything works just fine.
    I can’t say the shifting has noticeably improved vs my other 12 speed Di2 bikes but they work so well there wasn’t really much room to do so.
    I am not sure I would spend £50+ upwards on a Framesandgear mount bespoke to your bike, because its a very expensive way of saving 10-20 grams tops, but it does look very much neater, and if you have a UDH and can get a cheap generic one it is well worth doing.

    I haven’t done this, but have considered it. I would very much expect it is normal to need to re-index your gears after swapping to the direct mount. How mechanically savvy is your friend? If they just swapped the hangar without then re-indexing it, I’m not at all surprised that they subsequently experienced shifting problems, especially if they are running 12 speed. If they are mechanically proficient, did correctly re-index their derailleur after the swap, and still subsequently had problems, then that is more concerning – I’m not aware of that being a common complaint.
