Zipvit Sport ZV0 Electrolyte Drink
7 10

Zipvit ZV0 sounds like a cold war truth serum but in fact it's a low calorie, low carbohydrate, fruit flavour, electrolyte replenishing sports drink, that's claimed to boost your immune system as you ride.

That immune system boost, Zipvit says, comes from glutamine, an amino acid that according to some researchers, riders and coaches supercharges the immune system, simultaneously counteracting symptoms of overtraining. The blend is also claimed to help you burn fat, not in the murky slimming pills sense but by encouraging the body to convert fat cells into fuel more efficiently; ergo riders become leaner by default.

ZV0 comes in packets of twenty individually sealed tablets and in subtle cherry or watermelon flavours. Simply pop one tablet into every 500ml of fluid, allowing thirty seconds or so's dissolving time. A quick stir (or shake, should you be introducing them al fresco) accentuates this process and banishes any chalkiness.

Results have been genuinely favourable, compared with plain water or less sophisticated preps used over comparable distances. Ten-mile unofficial time trials were completed faster, with less fluctuation over steeper gradients, while I felt noticeably fresher on successive day-long runs. Whether this (and the ability to remain unhampered by lurgies) serves to prove the immune boosting claims is debateable, although Zipvit sneak a 'relative to other sports drinks' caveat in the small print.

Arguably, there are still benefits to mixing up your own drinks but otherwise, each packet contains enough to make fifteen litres, which represents pretty good value.

Verdict

Pleasantly neutral tasting and seemingly effective sports drink.

I have used these and they are really nice and refreshing, think refresher sweets but in a drink, not over bearing or sweet in taste as good as high5 zero doesn't leave your mouth dry, on offer at zipvit sports website use code ZVENERGY.
