Video: Beyond the Tour de France finish line with André Greipel

Things get hectic for Lotto-Soudal sprinter the moment he takes the win in Amiens

Things get a little hectic for any rider winning a Tour de France stage the moment they cross the finish line, as this video from Velon following André Greipel after his victory in Stage 5 in Amiens shows.

One of the German's Lotto-Soudal team staff, equipped with a camera, chases after him to help guide him back to the podium area, through a throng of well-wishers, not least his team mates offering their congratulations on a job well done.

Besides journalists wanting to grab a word with the stage winner immediately afterwards and photographers wanting to grab a picture, there is a long list of post-race protocols to go through - TV interviews, anti-doping control, the podium presentation for the stage and, in Greipel's case, the green jersey, plus the official press conference.

It's all part of a pro cyclist's job, of course - but especially after a stage as stressful as yesterday's, it does mean an extra delay before he can join his team mates at the hotel, get a much-needed massage and something to eat, then rest before getting back on his bike today to try and do it all again.
