Video: Near cat-astrophe at Six Days of Gent as cat leaps onto track

Feline nearly gets tangled up in wheels of Cav and co before deciding it's safer in the stands...

Racing at the opening day of the Six Days of Ghent meeting had to be temporarily suspended yesterday – after a cat got onto the track, narrowly avoiding getting hit by the riders. The incident was caught on camera by a spectator at the Belgian city’s 't Kuipke velodrome.

It’s unclear whether someone brought the animal into the venue or it made its own way inside.

But after it leapt from the stands onto the track, it certainly used up one of its nine lives as riders including Mark Cavendish sped past and the announcer called for racing to stop.

The cat – a Burmese, we think, going by these pictures on Dutch website NUSport – swiftly realised the danger it was in and got off the track sharpish, jumping back into the stand where it was eventually scooped up by a spectator.

I reckon the cat has a "tail" to tell, if not must be a Manx cat..... Did Cav's mum let the cat out of the bag?

Now I know why Lefevre didn't want Cav racing. Six day racing is way too dangerous! 24

I like others have thoughts from both directions. The justice system, sadly isn't infallible. I must admit that feel that it makes mistakes albeit it lets people go or lets them off too lightly. If he did do it why is he free now. Surely rape should be 25 years? Minimum. Anything less belittles the crime. So equally, maybe he didn't actually rape someone.

However assuming he did as the courts say then even when he is let out he should be ostracized and never given any job which has a role model part to play ever again. Prison maybe be about re habilitating to some but to many of us it is also about punishment and if you have offended you are a criminal and never ever to be trusted again. No Christianity in me in that respect. He has ruined someone elses life so his should suffer as well.
