Hi

So, is anyone on here from the Colwyn Bay area or perhaps have knowledge of the area?

I shall be up that way for a few days in March and again in May and am hoping to take the bike, certainly in May anyway.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good rides in that region….

I’m hoping to do:

1. A day down to, around and back from Anglesey (100 miles..ish)
2. Plenty of coastal riding
3. Possibly a trip down to the Gwydyr Forest Park and back through the smaller roads…

Got a bit of research to do, just hoping that maybe a local could throw their knowledge into the hat ..

Don’t know if nearby Rhos-on-Sea CC have any info on their website.

You could pop over to Llandudno and do a lap of the Great Orme, optional return via Deganwy.

Up the west side of the Conwy valley (B5106) to Betws-y-Coed, back via A470 though the latter’s a rather busy road at times. If you’re feeling up for some climbing, turn off in Llanrwst along the A548 and B5113 through Llanelian. Or even go south to Pentrefoelas (uphill all the way!) and back through Nebo.

Anglesey.
Go via Bangor then follow NCR 5 past the pier then the A5 and cross the Straits via the suspension bridge, carry on along A5 towards Llanfairpwll. In Llanfairpwll take the first left onto A4080, Brynsiencyn, Newborough, Aberffraw, Rhosneigr, back along A5 through Gaerwen (much quieter now there is the A55 dual carriageway) or via Llangefni and the lumpy but interesting B5420 to Menai Bridge.

Alternatively cross the Straits then at 2nd roundabout in Menai Bridge go up the hill, right at roundabout at the top onto A5025 and towards the North coast via Benllech and Moelfre. Left onto B5111 before Amlwch over Parys Mountain (fascinating copper mine, great views) then choose from: Llangefni and B5420 to Menai Bridge, or keep going and get to A5 or even the South coast and the reverse of the first route along A4080.
Another version of this is to carry on through/past Amlwch via Cemaes and do a full loop of the north of the island to Valley. Bear in mind that the East side has more hills. Above Beaumaris, around Llanddona there are some seriously steep gradients. The South West is easier, providing the wind isn’t too strong (and it’s often windy).

There is the costal bike path that is part of the national cycle path which runs for many miles right along the coast. If speed is your thing then the surface is not so good and lots of people out for a nice slow pootle.
