Mexico invests

Mexico looks set to boost its investment in bicycle lanes and other suitable cycling infrastructure. According to the transport and development think-tank (IPTD), investments of US$120.74 million in bicycles and infrastructure for the 32 biggest cities in Mexico would reduce pollution to a similar degree as if 100 Metrobus lines were introduced. This investment is equivalent to 5% of the overall budget for the transport sector. The aim is to ensure that 5% of all journeys in Mexico’s cities will involve the use of bicycles. The IPTD and the National Urban Cycling Network have recently launched the "5% for bicycles" campaign, which aims to boost the budget for bicycle projects during 2012.
