Hello all,

I’m after some feedback on satellite shifters for Shimano Di2 groupsets (Ultegra, in my case).

Firstly, is it possible to have both the sprint shifters (on the drops) and the climbing shifters (near the stem) on a bike at once? Or will the system only allow one or the other?

Secondly, what experience do people have of these? Are they worth it?

For what it’s worth, I’m more in the Kittel/sprinter build than the Quintana/climber build, so I spend quite a bit of time on the drops. As such, I tend to get in my low gear quickly when climbing and stay there!

It depends on whether or not
It depends on whether or not your Ultegra Di2 system is 10 or 11 speed. With the 11 speed 6870, Shimano added a third port to each shifter specifically for the sprint shifter. This is the same extra port you get on Dura-Ace 9070 as well, which is why the pros have both the sprint and climbing shifter on their bikes too. The older 10 speed Ultegra 6770 doesn’t have the extra port.

The sprint shifters technically aren’t shifters in their own right the way the climbing one is, they’re actually just an extension cable for the shifter circuitry inside the newer 11 speed levers. This is why they need the extra port on the lever instead of connecting directly to the junction box. Good break down of everything you ever wanted to know about Di2 here:

It has to be possible as I’ve seen it done on pro bikes, but how….don’t ask me, it may be Dura Ace only?
