Police helicopter pursues injured cyclist mistaken for escaped hospital patient

In Kingston upon Thames, a passer-by, rather than asking a cyclist whether he's OK, assumes he's 'escaped' from hospital, calls the Metropolitan police who launch a helicopter to track the biker down.

Wearing a hospital gown is likely to get attention though, so maybe they are better than hi-vis?

I find this rather sad.

There was no one in his life that could pick him and his bike up from the hospital.
The poor chap.

Don't ya just love journalists.

"police helicopter pursues injured cyclist' in the title and 'chased by police in a helicopter' in the copy.

So searching for what they believed was a vulnerable person the police called in the helicopter to help. Text book.

Story somewhat 'larged up'. Lucky the dogs weren't there!

Since when was a hospital a prison? Are the police really this pathetic to waste other people's money with a helicopter? When are they going to be held accountable? oh wait, it seems they will never be for this and lots of other things.

I'm sure someone will be along to defend them ; )

The helicopter would have been better served bringing patients to hospitals in emergencies rather than chasing some poor chap around. It's like that old game show "Interceptor" that used to be on Bravo haha 21
