How to catch the bus. There's also one about getting off it. If I was going to France or Gernany I guess there'd be no shame in reading up on how to use the RER and the U-Bahn. I guess this is a great way of removing obstacles to public transport use - one of the better things the internet has done -  but isn't using buses a life skill like brushing your teeth or tying your shoe laces??

Cranham Drive motorhome: dad clears drive of all vans

AN exasperated dad stands in his empty drive after removing all 'dilapidated' vehicles on council orders but vows to fight on for the right to park on his own driveway.

Mike Perkins' driveway in Cranham Drive, Warndon, Worcester, now stands vacant as he ponders whether he will ever be able to park his beloved vintage campervan there again.

Meanwhile, his 'David and Goliath' battle with Worcester City Council rumbles on with an appeal hearing due to take place on May 14.

Oh good grief, I guess we've all met them, the ones that are causing a problem, don't get the hint and then it's "poor little me" when it eventually gets into court proceedings.

11 year old Google view of his " pride and joy" "working on it every dry day" little collection.

Suffolk police have issued another dispersal order on a road this weekend to prevent a reoccurence of drivers dangerous driving that happened over the May Day bank holiday weekend, in some sort of racing & drafting meet up

Wouldn't it just be simpler to police the road?

Amberley Close blocked by ambulance 'for hour' over parking

Cllr Jill Desayrah previously organised a petition to have the grass verge area by the road converted into parking spaces although had been told by Worcestershire County Council it could not be done because of services beneath the surface, making the job 'too expensive'.

She was contacted by a woman, who did not criticise the ambulance service, saying the situation highlighted the need for extra parking, and even a dedicated bay for ambulances so that paramedics could get to patients more easily in an emergency and residents were not blocked in.

This is from a comment on a story on Kent Online about an elderly cyclist "A cyclist has died after colliding with the driver’s door 🧐 of a car near a railway station."

This is really unfortunate that he has passed away,
And my thoughts are with his family,
But how can this happen on that road
[…]
The cars owner is going to pay more for insurance next year as the family will claim on the insurance.
The car will need to be repaired possibly.
If a car hits another one from behind its the car that hits the car fault,
So, in the instance the cyclist must have been at fault,
Not paying enough attention,
Riding too close to the parked car,
Yet the car driver will be held responsible.

'Take me to court' says pensioner, 78, slapped with £100 parking fine he won't pay

Peter Toolan, 78, said he had 'no intention of trying to avoid payment' and is ready to fight his case in court

Mr Toolan, a former High School teacher, was charged £100 after parking at Redditch Train Station on February 24, 2024. He claimed the ticket machine was broken and that he planned to pay for the ticket the following day, not wanting to download an app and pay online at the time since he did not know when he would return to his vehicle🧐.

UK drivers warned over £87 charge (???)  when they turn up to petrol forecourts in May

Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, BP, Texaco, Esso and Shell drivers have been warned to expect a rising cost at the pump as petrol and diesel prices soar.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “Drivers are once again having to dig deep🎻 just to go about their daily lives. Our data shows petrol and diesel have now gone up 10p a litre so far this year on the back of further increases in April of 3p and 2p respectively.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/automated-vehicles-bill-2023/...

Quote:

Authorisation for use of self-driving will determine if vehicles are capable of safely and lawfully driving themselves without the need for a human to exercise control or monitor the road. In vehicles with authorised user-in-charge features, a human is still required in the vehicle to respond to requests from the vehicle and to hold at all times driver responsibilities other than those relating to exerting control of the vehicle and monitoring the road environment.

When an authorised user-in-charge feature is engaged, the human driver is not required to monitor the road and it would be unfair if they were to bear responsibility for the behaviour of the vehicle on the road. Responsibility for the manner of driving rests with the ASDE and an ASDE is responsible for its behaviour. To address this, Part 2, Chapter 1 of the bill creates the new concept of the ‘user-in-charge’. Under clause 46, an individual is a user-in-charge where they are in, and in a position to exercise control of, an authorised vehicle when a user-in-charge feature is engaged, but not controlling the vehicle. The user-in-charge has immunity from road traffic offences relating to how the vehicle behaves on the road as set out in clause 47.

;tldr = The person in the self driving vehicle cannot be held responsible for the actions of the self driving vehicle.  Instead, the software provider or manufacturer becomes responsible.

Not sure how I feel about that…

Entrapment, innit?  I mean, there's a road there then they decide you can't drive there?  Buses get in the way of drivers anyway, they're always stopping.  And why would they issue all those fines if it wasn't to make money?

And of course, it was a "tragic accident" rather than a rather significant failing by a so-called professional driver.

Read the Kent Online story regaring the poor cyclist death expecting the comments to be terrible. However, apart from the one above, most of them seem sensible and take apart the "....but cyclist" nonsense we usually see.

Most impressed by most posters.
