Extra prize categories?

Hi there,

Just have an idea that's been kicking around in my noggin, thought I'd put it out there.

If you're anything like me (a deluded optimist), you start off each race with high hopes of doing well, maybe even winning some kit from sponsors Wiggle/DHB.

After the usual missed opportunities, dodgy last-minute transfers, bad luck etc, you realise you have no chance of coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd and winning an actual prize (as opposed to a pretty badge). So instead you go for a stage win, 'cause that's the only chance you have left of picking up some real live booty.

But what about if there were prize categories for Green jersey, KOM jersey and White jersey in stage races? Nothing fancy, a DHB buff would do. But if there were prizes up for these categories, losers like myself could recalibrate their races and aim for a different goal. After all, this is what real-life directeur sportifs have to do all the time, isn't it? I reckon adding in these extra prize categories could really add to the depth and enjoyment of the game.

So my question to Dave and the other Road CC Fantasy League boffins is:
Is there a simple way to calculate who has got the most points through sprints, KOMs and having young riders in their teams? 39

If so, could the prize budget stretch to three more buffs/sunglasses/Di2 equipped road bikes for each stage race, or at least the grand tours?

Also, in similar vein, will there be a prize for the best team in the Overall Table at the end of the season?

There's been no mention of it, but surely there should be some reward for whoever tops the table at the end of a hard season's racing? (kinda like the UCI's WorldTour thingy that nobody really cares about).

Anyway, just a thought. What do you guys reckon?

It would be impossible to run on the forums. Without scoring the race myself there is no way to output the breakdown of a riders score from the game and it would be hell to keep track of all the transfers because the core of the game would be picking your team each day trying to chase the break or keep the top 5 of the KoM standings in your team. A purist version would be no fun.

You're right... The only way to do it on the Forums would be for whoever is scoring the Tour to offer a separate table for just those points... post them... and then each user score their own team every day and keep a running total... that way it could be kind of a ' King of the Jerseys' Purist Competition... like the 'Pick 3 Frenchmen' competition, maybe 'Pick 3 Break Riders' but just counting the KOM and Sprint points... It would be hell... I hadn't thought about the transfers...

Why oh why do you always whine when people want more? 39 Do you realize you whine almost as much as the people that whine - like me- about (!) the people that whine? 39 How ironic...

You should be paid,Gkam. At least in beer, anyways... 4 No one should have to do all that work for free...

I think that's a great idea, too... Maybe you can run it in the Forum for the Tour or the Vuelta... I guess the burden would be on collecting that data, which is already being done for the scoring, organizing it and reporting that data by team... Maybe the first time you run it you do it just for the 'pride' of it all... No prizes, just the 'title' of KOM or Youth Competition Winner or something like that...

I actually agree and this is something I've suggested in the past.

What I would like to see is specific competitions in the Grand Tours geared around gaining the highest number of KoM or sprint points much like the jersey's in the game. In order to win these you would need to bias your team towards picking breakaway riders at the expense of aiming for high stage scores and therefore it would not overlap with the main overall competition. That means that to win one of these prizes you'd need to sacrifice your overall position and it'd prevent the same people winning everything.

As an example the KoM 'jersey' comp would be based on:
- mid-stage KoM points
- standings points awarded at the end of the stages

It would not include summit finishes because that'd swing it back towards GC people, instead it'd be solely for people taking a punt on breaks.

The points jersey would take a similar format.

A white jersey style comp could be put together with the player who has scored the most points throughout the race from riders under 25. So you'd still be trying for high stage scores but attempting to do this with combinations of riders under 25.

Why oh why do people always want more..... I get annoyed at times by hiccups in the game and have said that I would gladly pay £20 so that road.cc could pay someone to make sure that the gremlins stop re-appearing, (cut off times, clocks going forward etc.)

But I think the prizes on offer for a tenner are absolutely fantastic and hats off to Dave and co for getting the Wiggle deal.....

I asked not to be paid, when Dave first got the extra folk on board, there was word of payment. I don't know if Dr or TER get paid and I'm not interested either.

I wasn't in a position to take payment as I was on benefits at the time. I now am self employed and not interested in taking payment anyway. I do it for the enjoyment of others and to benefit the site.

You see if you changed your name from 'the domestique' to 'the GC contender' you would have more chance of winning a buff.

I'll address a couple of things. There is no Overall prize for the season, because people come and go and don't play every race.

I don't want to go into specifics about prize budgets/sponsorship because I don't know the in's and out's of any contracts or how it is done. Lets just say, if I was to total the prize budget, which I know the exact figure. It is WELL over £10,000 and nearer £20,000 for all the races this season.

I think that is a fair amount of prizes, without adding more.
