Shimano PD-M520 SPD pedal

Price:
£34.99

Ah, Shimano PD-M520. You've got a bit of a clunky name and you're nothing special to look at, but is there a better all-round budget pedal than you out there? I think not.

Time All Road Gripper pedals

Price:
£73.99

Time All Road look quirky but bombproof build quality, superior mud clearance and five degrees of float coupled with improved support mean they've something for everyone from newbies to old hands, crossers to commuters. However, while they may replaceable, the soft elastomer gripper studs impregnated into the platformss wore surprisingly fast.

Shimano PDA600 SPD pedal

Price:
£79.99

According to Shimano these new pedals are good for "any onroad purpose from Granfondo to racing". if your shoes take two bolt cleats then these are light and smooth enough for pretty much anything. In fact, at barely 290g a pair according to the road.cc scales they're a scant 10g heavier than the claimed weight for Shimano's top end Dura-Ace race pedals (on Shimano's claimed weight, 286g, the PDA-600s are only 5g heavier.

Miche MT4 pedals

Price:
£51.99

Weighing in at 332g the pair plus 76g for the cleats, the Miche MT4s aren’t the lightest pedals around but they’re built to last and they work great.

Revolution Contact Clipless Pedals

Price:
£29.31

Produced in Taiwan by FPD for Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, the Revolution Contacts are dual sided Ritchey copies (or maybe homages) with as much to offer road fixers and tourists as the ‘cross and mountain bike fraternities.

Smooth, sealed cartridge bearings turn on solid Cro-moly axles and with basic care shouldn’t demand overhaul for a good few seasons. Repeated entry and exit around town hasn’t done anything to mar the smart powder coated alloy bodies, although they could be stripped and polished should they look tired.
